Opening fan (ōgi hiraki)

Fan motion accentuates arm motion. There are various ways of holding it, and the fan can perform various motions. The performer holds the closed fan in the right hand, while he holds an open fan in the fist of his right hand.

Opening the fan (ōgi hiraki) marks the beginning of a new section in a dance.
